Anna Louise Smith Podell, age 93, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, at Walking Horse Meadows Assisted Living.
Louise was born May 15, 1924, in Monterrey, Mexico, to the late Burnley Duke Smith and Ellen Bertha Dresel Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Hunt, Lowe Reding, and Barry Podell; and her brother, Burnley Duke Smith, Jr.
Louise was retired from the Civil Service at Fort Campbell. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over 60 years. Mrs. Podell was also a member of First Christian Church, the Audubon Society, the Historical Society, and the Fort Campbell Retirees Association. She was also the first female letter carrier in the state of Tennessee.
The funeral will be held Monday, June 19, at 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Dr. Craig Wascovich officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 18, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, and Monday, June 19, from 12:00 PM until the hour of service, at the funeral home.
Louise is survived by three sons, Dr. Robert L. (Phyllis) Hunt, Allen (Gwen) Hunt, and Burnley (Debbie) Hunt, all of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Burnley Nathan (Ashley) Hunt, Gillian (Geoff) Hunt, Charles Paul (Mandy) Hunt, Brendan Hunt, and JoAnna Hunt; and four great grandchildren.
Louise's sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 519 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
