George Duke Smithson, was born to T. Vernon Smithson and Beulah Duke Smithson on February 3, 1924, in Mount Juliet/Wilson County-Central Pike Community, TN.

He departed this life on September 15, 2017, in Eugene, Oregon.

George graduated with the Mount Juliet High School Class of 1942.

He married Hazel Lorene Powers on January 16, 1944.

In George's teen years, he belonged to a local boxing club and fought Golden Gloves. Over the years, George owned/operated numerous gas stations and brake/muffler shops. He was also a long time businessman during his 48 years of living in California, before retiring and moving back to Clarksville, TN. George was active in politics and real estate. He was a member of the Church of Christ for over 72 years.

George is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Thiesfeld; son-in-law, Henry Thiesfeld; grandchildren, Steven and wife Tracey Smithson, Melanie Brudnicki, Jason and wife Linda Thiesfeld, and Cynthia and husband Marty Geddes; brother, Walter L. Smithson; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

George is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 yeras, Lorene Powers Smithson; son, George Ronald Smithson; infant son, Vernon Warner Smithson; four brothers; two half-brothers; and infant great-grandson, Troy Austin Thiesfeld.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Juliet Memorial Gardens, West Division Street, Mount Juliet, TN. Officiating Minister of the Gospel is Jason Sage of the 2nd Street Church of Christ, Clarksville, TN.
