May 16, 2017

Gerald "Jerry" T. Drum, age 78, passed away at home on May 16, 2017, after a lengthy illness.

Jerry was born in Greenville, NC to the late Buford Drum and Louise Drum Quiggins. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Dr. Ken Quiggins and grandson, Blake Drum.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Margery Drum; son Doug Drum (Sherry) of Clarksville, TN; daughter, Sheila Cook of Nashville, TN; step-daughter, Karen Norman (Mack); two step-sons, David Forrester (Tammy Arms) and Jeff Forrester; granddaughter, Blair Drum; four step-grandchildren, Eric Forrester, Trey Norman, Lee Norman, and Samantha Davis (Sam) of Clarksville, TN; brother, Bill Quiggins (Helon); nephew, Shelby Quiggins of Maumelle, AR; sister, Alice Quiggins of Greenville, NC; and many cousins.

Jerry knew since age 12 that he wanted a career in the construction industry. Jerry began to fulfill his dream by graduating from NC State with a degree in Civil Engineering. He moved to Clarksville in 1960 and joined J.A. Reece Company, where he later became President and Partner. Upon retirement, he joined First Federal Savings Bank as Assistant Vice President and Construction Loan Officer. During a 50 year career in the industry, Jerry participated in many professional and civic organizations. He was a founding member of the Clarksville Area Association of General Contractors (AGC), Clarksville-Montgomery County Home Builders, Clarksville and International Jaycees, Leadership Clarksville, Kiwanis Club, APSU Governor's Club, and Madison Street United Methodist Church.

Jerry was honored for his service by receiving the 2007 Tennessee AGC Lifetime Member Award, 2014 Clarksville Home Builders Association Jackie Goad Award, 2015 Home Builders Association Lifetime Member Award and the Associated General Contractors 2017 Skill Integrity Responsibility Award. The highest honor an individual can attain within the association and construction industry. Until recently, Jerry continued his passion for quality construction by performing inspections for residential, commercial, and subdivision development.

"Poppy" loved and was loved by many, but his family held that special place in his heart. Jerry spent many days on the boat at Lake Barkley or the river. Memories of Jerry cheering on the Titans, sunning on his beloved Destin beaches, and playing with his granddogs will comfort all who are missing him.
