Welcome to the memorial page for

Mary Evelyn Brown

August 18, 2017

A resident of Oceanside, CA since 1965, Mary passed away peacefully at her home of natural causes, on August 18, 2017.

Beloved daughter of Paul E. Brown (WWI), Yellow Creek, TN and Evelyn Wickham, Cumberland City, TN; and sister to Paul Nelson Brown (WWII). She was born and raised a "city" girl and a "farm" girl in Clarksville, TN. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1950 and attended Austin Peay State College from 1951-52, majoring in Business Education. She was nicknamed "Wimpy" as a child by her parents, because she loved eating cheeseburgers.

Mary was smart, well-rounded, compassionate, and operated in three speeds: slow, stop, and delegate. She enjoyed happy hour, holiday decorating, roses, champagne with girlfriends, being a Charger fan, and holding her own at Blackjack.

She was married twice, each husband a USMC member, which brought her to Camp Pendleton, CA, where she had an outstanding 27-year career, beginning as an Accounting Clerk and ending as the Director, MWR Personnel Section.

Widowed to retired MSgt. John R. Brown; and survived by sons, John P. (Sonia) Brown of Las Vegas, NV, David Drebushenko of Hemet, CA, Mark Drebushenko (deceased), Stephen Drebushenko of Hemet, CA; daughters, Linda (Mike) Luedeman (deceased), Kimberly (Marvin) Rouhotas of Kingston, Jamaica, Tina (Albert) Van Breukelen of Oceanside, CA; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Mary was laid to rest in a private ceremony, at Eternal Hills Cemetery.

Please honor Mary by donating to Hospice of North Coast, 2525 Pio Pico Drive, Suite 301, Carlsbad, CA 92008; or to North Coast United Methodist Church, 1501 Kelly Street, Oceanside, CA 92054.
