Abner Brown Harvey III, age 90 of Clarksville passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Fieldstone Place.

Mr. Brown Harvey was born December 12, 1931 in Clarksville, TN to the late Abner Brown Harvey II and Mary Elizabeth Senseney. In addition to his parents, he also preceded in death by his wife, Bettie B. Harvey; brother, Aubrey B. Harvey; sister Cathryn H. Mehigan; and son-in-law, Carl Suiter. He is survived by his son, John Michael (Robin) Harvey; daughters: Deborah H. Suiter, Mary Beth Harvey, Lydia H. Elmore; grandchildren: Michael Andrew (Kiren) Harvey, Kathryn Elizabeth Bonner, William D. (Lauren) Harvey, Lindsey Michelle (Ricky)Kaetzel, Brittany Paige (Josh) Fields; great grandchildren, Emery Caroline Harvey, Zoe Fields, Ava Fields, Braylen Fields and Jayden Fields.

Brown was a member of the First Christian Church and a pillar to the Clarksville Community. Mr. Harvey was the co-owner of Byers & Harvey Real Estate and Insurance. He was a Deacon of the First Christian Church, a 1988 Leadership of Clarksville member (1st year started), Past President of Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of Guaranty Federal Savings Bank. He appeared in the 1956 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America (1953-1954) and Who’s Who at Austin Peay State College. Public Building Authority Chairman (2003-2009), member of Al Meniah Temple Shrine Club, Chairman of 1950 CHS Senior Class Reunion, in which he spearheaded 11 reunions over the years. Mr. Harvey “Loved his Civitan Club, the fellowship and all the good fundraisers/public service projects”. He was initiated into the Clarksville Downtown Civitan Club in December of 1957 and served as club President in the 1962-1963 Civitan year. Mr. Harvey was very active in many of the service projects that the Clarksville Civitan Club sponsored. These included: APSU Scholarships, local Boy Scouts, Junior Civitan and working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities through Progressive Directions Inc. to name a few. Brown was granted Life Membership status by the club members in 2021. He was passionate about the many wonderful projects the Civitan Club was involved in including the annual Vidalia Onion Sale, the Claxton Fruitcake sale, the annual Fish Fry, and the newly formed Scavenger Hunt that provided scholarships to the Austin Peay State University students. Brown’s funniest award through Clarksville Civitan was the year they sold pecans and almonds. Of course Brown sold the most bags and took in so much profit to be given away to those in need that the club awarded him ‘The Biggest Nut Award’! Mr. Harvey was the club’s official historian and would often remind the club of all the great works it had done for the community. His dedication to Civitan was greatly known and felt in the Clarksville Community.

Pallbearers are Michael Andrew Harvey, William D. Harvey, Todd Harvey, Stephen Harvey, Mike Harvey, and Frank Straw. Honorary pallbearers are D.W. Howard Jr., Jimmy Dunn, Ben Kimbrough, Keith Swift, Henry Martin and Jim Hancock.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the hour of service, at the funeral home. The family requests that all visitors wear a face covering.
