Coy D. Baggett, Jr., 78, lifelong resident of Clarksville, TN passed away on Thursday April 22, 2021. He was born to the late Coy D. Baggett, Sr and Louise Sawyer Baggett. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Betty Gayle O’Neil.
He was a successful Builder and Developer as was his father before him. He graduated from Vanderbilt University. He attended Immaculate Conception Church where he was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and served for many years on the church finance committee. Coy believed in the Clarksville community and devoted his time and resources to many area service organizations. He was Past President of the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Clarksville Country Club and the Clarksville Montgomery County Homebuilders Association. He supported many charities but his favorite ones were associated with feeding the hungry.
In their retirement, Coy and his wife Jo Ann enjoyed spending time at their winter home in Naples, FL where they had many friends and were active members at Imperial Golf Club. Coy loved golf and was a lifelong student of the game. Another passion was hunting waterfowl and wildlife conservation. He supported Ducks Unlimited and was a member of Sailor’s Rest Hunting Club.
Coy’s family was the true joy of his life and was the focus of his hard work and efforts. Coy is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jo Ann Dinsmore Baggett, sons Matt (Marla) Baggett and Jason Baggett; Grandchildren: Nathan, Coy, and Kate; Brother-in-Law Tim O’Neil, Jr.; Niece Margaret (George) Fleming and Nephew Tim O’Neil III as well as Grandnieces and Grandnephews. Coy also loved his wife JoAnn’s large extended family as his own.
A Memorial Mass will be Tuesday April 27th, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church in Clarksville, TN. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00pm and the Memorial Mass will begin at 3:00pm. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Vail, Tim Parker, Jim Manning, Dan Nolan, Dave Farris, Bill Dunlop, David Elliott, and the members of Sailor’s Rest Hunting Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, Manna Cafe, Harry Chapin Food Bank of Naples, FL and/or Immaculate Conception Church.
