Arthur Floyd Scott, age 77, of Clarksville, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 from a sudden illness at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, Nashville, Tennessee.
Floyd was born, January 10th 1944, in Dickson County, TN, to the late Herman Scott and Ruby Stuart Scott. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Stuart and his sister, Betty Scott Edwards.
Floyd was a biology professor at Austin Peay State University and one of the founding faculty members of the Center of Excellence for Field Biology. Floyd earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from APSU and his PhD from Auburn University, becoming an ardent, lifelong Auburn fan. Floyd's distinguished academic career culminated in the publication of the Atlases of Amphibians and Reptiles in Tennessee. Beyond his pure intellectual rigor and pursuit of academic excellence, Floyd's kindness and support of his students is seen in his lifelong friendships and their own academic and professional successes.
Floyd was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where a Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, April 28, at 11:30 AM, with the Rev. Meghan Ryan officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 28, from 10:00 AM until the time of service, at the church courtyard. Committal Service will be Saturday, May 15, at 2:00 PM, at Greenwood Cemetery. Masks are required, and social distancing will be observed.
Dr. Scott is survived by his wife, Malinda Mabry-Scott; son, Stuart (Laura) Scott; daughter, Melissa Scott; three brothers, Lloyd (Cindy) Scott, his identical twin, Gus (Polly) Scott, Larry (Elise) Scott; four grandchildren, Austin Scott, Paige (Trent) Mayberry, Olivia Grace Scott, and Ellie Harrell; and two stepchildren, Emily Darnell and Fount Darnell.
