Elisha Columbus Hurley

Elisha Columbus Hurley, age 74, of Clarksville, TN passed away Tuesday August 31, 2021 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Elisha was born February 18, 1947 in Harlan, KY to the late Dexter Hurley and Malva Brown Hurley.

Dr. Hurley was a U.S Army Veteran with 33 years of service and a clinical psychologist. He was the executive director and founder of Soldier Center located in Clarksville TN. E.C. was a life-long learner with multiple degrees including a DM in and PhD. EMDR Therapy (a treatment that was developed by Francine Shaprio to help people recover from traumatic experiences) became his passion and changed the lives of many throughout the world; providing both EMDR therapy to military and first responders and their families as well as many others and training clinicians who are working with those with psychological trauma. He was a clinical member of the Tennessee Disaster Mental Health Strike Team responding to disasters and providing crisis intervention for responders and the public.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until the hour of service. 

The family asked that in lieu of flowers donation be made to the EMDR Foundation at www.emdrfoundation.org.

Elisha is survived by his wife, Nancy McCleskey Hurley; three sons; Michael Hurley, Mark Hurley and Jeremy Tull; one daughter, Andrea Jackson; and two grandchildren, Braiden and Tanner Jackson.
