Fannie Barrett, age 97, of Clarksville, TN passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022, surrounded by her family, at her home.
Fannie was born July 1, 1925 in Clarksville, TN to the late Calvin Terry Smith and Annie Goldie Gibbs. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William "Bud" Barrett; brothers, E.C. Smith, Howard Smith, Mitchell Smith; sisters Juanita Wolfe, and Nettie Moore; and grandson, Alan Francis.
Fannie is survived by her daughters Tayloe Jackson, and Terry Pulley; grandchildren, Jamie (Heather) Baird, Ryan (Stephanie) Baird, Scott (Caitlin) Baird, Ben Francis, and Jeff Grinalds; great-grandchildren Jameson, Nate, Noah Baird.
Fannie was on the Clarksville High School Basketball Team 1942-1943, a CHS Alumni, Austin Peay Basketball Team, and made a lot of chocolate pies and caramel cakes. She was a former co-owner of Brenner Furniture Store for 51 years.
She was a life time employee of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. She served the Clarksville community in numerous ways which included president of the following organizations: Clarksville Furniture Dealers Association, The Credit Bureau, Clarksville Credit Professionals, The Lioness Club, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Other memberships included the Chamber of Commerce, The Better Business Bureau, and The Mary Morrison Chapter of The Eastern Star. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over forty-five years during which time she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School class. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who were honored to know her.
She was a true woman who was always willing to help anybody. She would tackle you if you tried to help her with family food brought to the funeral home. She was always fixed to the max and always carried candy in her coat pocket.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, September 28, at 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Lannom officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 27, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at the funeral home. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
