Harriett Ophelia Davis Tate, age 104, of Clarksville, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Spring Meadows Healthcare Center.

Harriett was born January 2, 1917, in Clarksville, TN, to the late Joseph Fowlkes Davis and Sallie Damron Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Henry "Jack" Tate; sister, Mildred Davis Powell; and son-in-law, Tommy Clouser.

Mrs. Tate was a member of St. Bethlehem Christian Church, UMW of St. Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and AORN. She was a 1935 graduate of Clarksville High School, and she attained her RN degree in 1939 from Nashville General Hospital. Harriett spent most of her professional life in the operating room, from 1939 until 1977, and she was supervisor of the operating room at Memorial Hospital from 1972 until 1977. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed reading all her life. She also enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughters and was an accomplished seamstress.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 22, at 11:00 AM, at Greenwood Cemetery, with Dr. Bennie Robinson officiating.

Harriett is survived by four daughters, Susan Woodside, Amy (Pete) Schmittou, Sallie (Phil) Lachowicz, and Peggy Clouser; eight grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bethlehem Christian Church, 280 Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville, TN 37043.
