He was my drill sergeant and I was a private in basic in spring 1971. He was such a good man and he encouraged me. I was a squad leader for a while and then platoon guide a bit too. I really put myself into it with heart and soul. He paid me a great tribute when he said the only time the F’d up platoon was doing any good was when I was leading it. I never forgot him and wished I found him before today. I always wanted to call or write him and thank him for being such an encouraging person. Slept well, dear soldier. I love that photo of him. It’s exactly as I remember him. Robert Morecook PhD, formerly Specialist Five, US Army, Colonel, Texas State Guard (Ret), Sugar Land, Texas
