James M. "Jimmy" Hicks, age 83, of Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2017, at Summit Medical Center, in Hermitage. 

James was born November 20, 1933, in Clarksville, TN, to the late Raymond Sylvester Hicks, Sr. and Ellie Catherine McElroy Hicks. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ira Mai Balthrop and Eloise Phillips.

James was a US Army veteran. He retired from the Fort Campbell School System, where he worked from 1957 until 2005. During that time, he was principal at Lincoln Elementary School. Mr. Hicks was an APSU Student Teaching Supervisor and was a member of First Baptist Church of Clarksville since 1960. He was a loving husband and father. James loved his Lincoln Elementary School community, including the students, parents, faculty, and staff. He also loved raising pet rabbits, which he loved sharing with children. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 4, at 1:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, Grace Worship Center, with Pat Van Dyke officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, and Saturday, November 4, from 12:00 PM until the hour of service, at the church. 

James is survived by his wife, Sarah Neal C. Hicks; daughter, Sarah E. (Beth) Hicks of Clarksville; brother, Raymond S. "Buddy" Hicks, Jr. of Clarksville; two sisters, Johnnie K. Thomas of Clarksville and Margaret Ashford of Jacksonville, TX; and several nieces and nephews. 

Pallbearers will be William Fields, Rick Rodriguez, Bill Boyd, William Nelson, David Balthrop, Billy Walker, and Troy Downey. Honorary pallbearers will be W.L. Burnett, John Hill, James Walker, Dusty Doster, Tom Jurker, Doyle Price, Larry Francis, and the Leadership Team of the Fort Campbell School System. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
