Janet Lee Burke Fulton Lessaos, age 87, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the Hilldale Church of Christ with Bro. Steve Kirby officiating. Janet continued with her lifelong desire to help others and donated her body to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Her donation can help save the lives of others, assist with medical research and education, and improve the quality of life for untold recipients.
Janet entered this life on December 4, 1932, in Dearborn, Michigan, to the late Chester and Genevieve Burke. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Milton Logan Fulton; her second husband, Louie Lessaos; and her son, Chris Fulton.
She also lived in Arizona, New Mexico and Idaho, raised her family in Pasadena, California, and came to Clarksville, Tennessee, to assist with caring for her elderly mother prior to her death. Janet was an active member of Hilldale Church of Christ and was devoted to her faith. She served in the U.S. Army where she acquired excellent, life-long culinary skills; her many friends regularly received her special baked treats. She lovingly gifted her family and friends her beautiful needlework projects and other crafts.
Janet worked with the Head Start programs from its inception, and she continued helping others until her health conditions recently interrupted those activities. She volunteered with the Community Action Agency in Clarksville for 18 years as a Foster Grandmother; she worked at Moore Elementary School and New Providence United Methodist Child Development Center. Associates from the school, church, and Community Action Agency praise her tireless efforts through all the years to give love, structure, and special attention to these young children. She was a selfless, dedicated volunteer.
Survivors include her sons, Clay Fulton and Chuck Fulton; daughter Caroline Fulton; grandsons Dallas Fulton and Michael and Danny Sage; great-grandchildren, Madison and Emma Fulton, Jacob, Bradley, and Zane Sage; and siblings Mat Matzek, Judy Peery, and Marilyn Fuller. Janet also leaves behind many special friends who loved her dearly.
