Lieutenant Roy "LT" Thomas Bowers

Lieutenant Roy "LT" Thomas Bowers, age 83 of Clarksville, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Roy was born on June 7, 1938 in Robertson County, TN to the late Rabon Lawson Bowers and Katherine Northington Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jean Cross Bowers; sons, Daryl T. Bowers, Adrian J. Bowers; daughters, Sheryl Bowers Messenger, Jackqueline Bowers Franklin, Jennifer Bowers Smith, Sakenna Harrison; sister, Virginia Sue Ogburn; grandchildren, Shaina Messenger, Shawn Messenger and many great grandchildren.

Roy was one of ten children and the first black Lieutenant to retire from the Clarksville Police Department.  He loved to fish, and was a craftsman of the woodworking trade, building decks and picnic tables. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather and deacon of his church. Roy also loved his sweets and was especially fond of “Honey Buns” and homemade ice cream.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Christ the Healer Church, 1295 Paradise Hill Rd. Clarksville, TN with visitation at 11:00 AM and the service immediately following at 12:00 PM with Bishop Calvin Lockett officiating. Wake service will be Friday, May 20, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home and Interment will be on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery.
