Lurton L. Butts, Jr., age 93, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018.
Lurton was born August 23, 1925, in Stewart County, TN, to the late Lurton L. Butts, Sr. and Myrtle Austin Butts. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rushie Rose Butts; one daughter, Pat Butts; brother, Ray Butts; and one sister, Vergie Lee Allison.
Lurton retired as Assistant Fire Chief of Fort Campbell. He was a member of Forest Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Butts was a US Navy veteran, having served in World War II.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, September 24, at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Sonny Kim and Bro. Joey Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 23, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, and Monday, September 24, from 9:00 AM until the hour of service, at the funeral home.
Lurton is survived by his son, Phillip Butts of Clarksville; one daughter, Judy Ann Ealey of Clarksville; one sister, Margie Swift of Nashville; seven grandchildren, Shane Butts, Cadence War, Jason Butts, Meghan Johnson, Troy Baggett, Angie Swift, and Justin Swift; and five great grandchildren, Jessie Baggett, Katie Baggett, Andrew Michael, Evie Oliveras, and Lucas Butts.
Pallbearers will be Shane Butts, Troy Baggett, Cadence War, Chris Swift, and Houston Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
