On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, Mildred Houston Gossett, lovingly known as “Gill” by her family, passed away peacefully at the age of 99.
Mildred was born to Iva Hosale and Harry Gossett on January 19, 1923 in Cheatham County, she was the fourth of nine children. She lived and worked in Clarksville for most of her life. Since 2015, she has lived in Chattanooga to be near her only surviving sibling, her sister Pat.
While Mildred never married, she lived a full life with family as her focus. She was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt to her eleven nieces and nephews as well as to their children. They brought her much joy…she adored them all.
Mildred graduated from APSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While earning her degree, she went to work for “Ma Bell”, as a telephone operator. Mildred spent her entire 40 plus year career with the AT&T phone Company. At retirement, she had achieved a management position with the company and commuted to their Dickson, Tennessee location.
Though her career took up most of her time, Mildred was involved in UMW at her church, was always in a book club, helped with the homeless ministry, and was a member of the work club, “The Pioneers”. She was also quite the fashionista.
Mildred was a lifelong member of Madison Street United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
