Peggy Heltsley Taylor, 78, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at her daughter's residence.

Peggy was born on January 21, 1940, in Clarksville, TN and a lifelong resident. She is the daughter of the late Sidney Emerson and Elizabeth Smoth Heltsley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lyle Taylor.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Monday, February 12, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

In 1973, she was named Outstanding Young Women of America and was presented Life membership of the Tennessee PTA. She served as 1st Vice President of Clarksville Beautification Committee, Past President of Les Candides Garden Club, Past President of Clarksville Council of Garden Clubs, Past President of Friends of the Library, Past Chairman of Church Women United, Past Chairman of Flying High Museum Fundraiser, served on the Clarksville-Montgomery County Museum Guild, member of First Christian Church, and member of the Captain William Edmiston Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Peggy was a descendant of Captain Frederick Debow, who fought in the Revolutionary War. Captain Debow was married to Rachel Rogers, daughter of John Rogers, Jr., brother to Anne Rogers Clark, the mother of General George Rogers Clark, who founded Clarksville in 1784. General Clark was an explorer and Revolutionary War hero.

Peggy is survived by her son, Sidney Wilson Taylor (Lynn Darnell) of Nashville, TN; daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Bush (Mark) of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Betty McClain (Marcus) of Clarksville, TN; and three grandchildren, Kate Taylor, Sy Taylor of Nashville, TN, and Emerson Bush of Murfreesboro, TN.

Pallbearers will be Danny Heltsley, Jimmy Heltsley, Don Dority, Sonny Campbell, Ronnie Page, Walton Smith, Jr., and Todd Devers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Library, 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 501, Clarksville, TN 37040.
