Samuel Leon Garrett, age 22, of Cookeville, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 surrounded by friends and family.
Samuel was born October 22, 1998 in Clarksville, TN to Kenneth Michael Garrett and Amy Sumner.
He is survived by his father, Dr. Michael Garrett, step-mother, Dr. Lisa Garrett; mother, Amy Sumner Brown, step-father Billy Brown; wife, Jenna Garrett; grandmother, Judy (Joseph) Bryer; sister, Hannah (Brian) Menhennet; step-sister, Stephanie (Trent) Roeske; nephews and nieces, McClane Garrett, Lennon Menhennet, Copeland Menhennet, Leo Menhennet, Deklyn Braddy, Delaney Braddy; mother-in-law, Janet Smith; lifelong friend, Tyler Smith; and his beloved dogs, Charlie and Lucy.
Samuel was a graduate of Clarksville Academy and Montgomery Bell Academy. He also attended Belmont University and Tennessee Tech. He was on the Shotgun Team, where he was also the captain and assistant coach, for the MBA Skeet Shooting Team and Junior Olympics Team. In 2015, he was on the Division 2-A State Champion football team, and he was the 2017 “Top Gun” for the highest average scorer. He won the Alabama and South Carolina Junior Sporting Clay Championship, as well as the 2019 Junior World Championship. Sam received the Francis E Carter Jr. Award for Service and Achievement at Honors Night, MBA Shotgun Team Captain, and Top Gun Award in 2017.
The Sam Garrett Award is given in honor of Coach Sam Garrett, a 2017 graduate of MBA, team captain, Top Gun Award winner, and incredibly accomplished shooter. This award is presented to a shooter who, like Sam Garrett, is a leader that hones the direction of the team and helps everyone around him improve. Displaying great sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and perseverance, this shooter pushes everyone to be the best they can be, setting a great example, raising the bar and elevating the game.
Services will be held Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Marc Ardisson and Rev. Ronnie Sivells officiating. Visitation will be held, Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the hour of service. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens following service.
