Tribute

William “Bill” Pickering, age 82, of Clarksville, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Jubilee House.

Bill was born October 5, 1938, in Clarksville, TN, to the late Roscoe and Dorothy Pickering. He graduated from Clarksville High school. He attended Austin Peay State University achieving a Bachelor’s of Science in Business. In order to further his banking career, he attended Banking School at Louisiana State University. Bill began his career at First National Bank in Clarksville as a teller. He remained an employee through several changes of ownership and achieved the status of Vice President of Lending when he retired.

Within the Clarksville community, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Hilldale Civitan Club. He attended and served as Treasurer of the Hilldale Methodist Church. Bill was both a member and multi-year President of the Clarksville Green Head Bass Club.

During Bill’s life he served his country as a member of the Tennessee National Guard. When his service commitment ended, Bill became an avid bird hunter and fisherman. In addition, he was a great lover of sports. He attended games when possible. When he could not attend games in person, Bill cheered for his favorite teams while watching the television broadcast of the game. He would cheer for the Braves; even during the lean years. He enjoyed University of Tennessee football as well as Women’s Basketball and rarely missed a televised game of either. He was extremely pleased when his youngest daughter, Senia, attended the University of TN as it gave him a reason and opportunity to attend football games in person. Closer to home, he would often attend and cheer for the Austin Peay basketball team.

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce K. Pickering; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tiffany and Howard Bright, Senia and Stewart Newman; three grandchildren, Keaton Bright, Caiden Bright, and Trista H. Newman. He is further survived by his sister, Linda Beasley and predeceased by his bother Bobby Dean Pickering.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of the mourner’s choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, 1510 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040; (931) 645-6488.
